About John...
After completing His PGCE at King's College, London, in 1994, John taught Religion and Philosophy at two large London comprehensive schools while completing his MA in School Leadership at London University's Institute of Education (IoE).
Between starting teaching and moving to Gloucester in 2003 to take up the post of deputy headteacher, he held several roles, including Head of RE, Head of Humanities, Assistant Head and Governor. While broadening his pastoral and curriculum skills as a deputy, he completed his NPQH before becoming the Principal at Chipping Campden School, a large coeducational stand-alone academy in Gloucestershire, in 2012.

For over a decade, John was able to lead this school through a wide range of educational developments, while training as an Ofsted Inspector in 2014. Following the school's impressive inspection in 2017 and, fuelled in part by the Covid crisis, he developed a formal network of schools through Challenge Partners, with Chipping Campden School operating as the lead school. This network enabled him to work closely with headteachers on planned school to school support activities as well as participating in national peer-to-peer Quality Assurance Reviews (QARs) following further training through the Challenge Partners National Network.
In September 2023 John moved out of direct school leadership to focus on supporting school leaders to further develop and improve their organisations, as well as the lives of the young people in their care. Currently, this involves supporting headteachers and their senior teams in a wide variety of school contexts through the leadership of quality assurance and curriculum reviews involving a range of agreed activities, as well as delivering bespoke leadership coaching and supporting headteacher appraisals.
John is also delighted to be working in the alternative provision sector with schools committed to improving the life chances of young people who have struggled to make their way in main stream settings.
